I thought I’d give you a quick update of where we are especially with regards to the French and Prussian campaigns.
First of all, the new French and Prussian battles are practically finished. The main work right now is in building an effective defensive AI. Some of the new maps also have impassable rivers (except over bridges) so the AI needs to learn how to defend (and also attack) through those areas. I also want the AI to be more reactive to the player. For example if a French player attacks the right flank of the Prussian army, then the Prussian AI general will need to decide whether or not to send in reserves or weaken the left flank to reinforce that area. This creates another problem: the AI now needs to decide what areas are worth defending, reinforcing and counter attacking. There’s also a few higher level AI problems such as the general deciding whether to defend in depth and delay the attacker or to hold on to every yard. The good news is that I’ve been working on all this for a while now and its almost finished.
